Sainte-Marie is a small archipelago located on the northeast coast of Madagascar, made up of 8 islands and islets: Sainte-Marie Island, Madam Island, Isle aux Forbans, Whale Island, 3 Sandy Islets and finally the Ile Aux Nattes Island.
Ile Aux Nattes is located south of Sainte-Marie. This small piece of land does not have electricity, energy is ensured in the hotels by solar panels and generating sets, generally from 6 PM to 10:30 PM. At Analatsara's, electricity is available 24 hours a day.
There are no cars, which provides us with remarkable calm and tranquility. Located on the west coast of Île aux Nattes, Analatsara's guest houses are built on the beachfront, facing the ocean and offering magnificent sunsets every night over the lagoon.
You'll arrive in Antananarivo (Ivato airport), from where you can catch a plane to Sainte-Marie, which is served almost daily. The island's airport is to the south of the island, just a stone's throw away from Ile Aux Nattes.
Road + boat access
You can also reach Sainte-Marie by road from Tana to Tamatave: approx. 8 hours… Then from there to Soanierana Ivongo with another bush taxi (about 3 hours), where you will find shuttle boats crossing to Ambodifotatra.
These companies can take care of you directly from Tamatave thanks to their regular bus shuttles. The boat trip costs about 50.000 ariary.
The El Condor boat of the Blue Marine company, a newcomer to the shuttle market.
"Aho handeha ilonat" = I'm going to Ile Aux Nattes!
From St. Mary's capital town (Ambodifotatra) to "La Pointe" (the southern tip), taxis cost 20.000 ariary per group of travelers. A tuk-tuk costs between 10.000 and 15.000 Ar. Tuk-tuks and taxis can transport you from the airport to the southern tip of the island where a canoe will take you through the pass (2.000 Ar / person). Canoes can also transfer you directly to the beach in front of Analatsara for about 8.000 ariary per person.
Alternatively, a trail leads you through the west side of the island, down to the guest house, through lush vegetation. A 30 minutes walk if you are not too loaded. Of course, prices are indicative and may vary according to current exchange rate and local economy.
